How long do nail extensions last?
How long do nail extensions actually last?
The answer may vary depending on several factors, including the type of nail extension you choose, how well you take care of your nails, and how quickly your natural nails grow.
Different types of nail extensions
There are mainly three types of materials commonly used in nail extensions:
1. Acrylic Nails – Acrylic extensions are made from a mixture of powder and liquid (also called monomer) that hardens when exposed to air. They are very durable and can usually last for 3-4 weeks before you need a return visit to top up the growth.
2. Gel Nails – Gel extensions are created by applying a gel that is cured under a UV or LED lamp. Gel nails are slightly more flexible than acrylic nails, but last the same amount of time on average, about 3-4 weeks.
3. Polygel – Polygel is a hybrid between acrylic and gel. It has the durability of acrylic and the flexibility of gel, making it a popular option. Polygel can last for about 3 weeks before needing a refill.
Preparation of the nails
The biggest reason why nails don't last as well or start to peel is because the nails aren't prepped properly. We've written a previous post about this, check it out here for more detailed tips and tricks:

How fast do your natural nails grow?
Nails grow at different rates for different people. In general, a nail grows about 2-3 mm per month. This growth affects how often you need to return to your nail technician to fill in the gaps that form between the cuticles and the artificial extension. The faster your nails grow, the more often you will need maintenance.
Care and maintenance
How well you take care of your nails after getting nail extensions can also affect how long they last.
Here are some tips to extend the life of your nails.
Use gloves when cleaning:
Harsh chemicals and lots of water can weaken nails and cause them to lift. Always wear gloves when cleaning, washing dishes, or exposing your nails to water for extended periods of time.
Avoid using your nails as tools:
Nails are often damaged when we use them to open cans or pull hard objects. Treat them with care to prevent breakage.
Moisturize regularly:
Cuticles and nails benefit from moisture. Apply cuticle oil daily to keep them soft and prevent cracking.

- A clear growth is visible at the cuticle.
- Nails start to feel heavy or unbalanced due to the extension.
- You experience that your nails break or lift more easily.
- You start to see a gap between your natural nail and the nail extension.
